TikTok Offers The Community Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that allows them to cut down on the volume of artificial intelligence-produced media appearing in their streams. This move comes as the company revealed that it currently hosts in excess of 1 thousand million AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is being tested over the coming weeks before a full-scale rollout. This development comes amid a surge in AI content, fueled by new video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Recent reports that almost one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding video streams on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A large amount of this material is classified as mass-produced AI material, a term for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is typically illogical or bizarre.

Our research shows that a lot of users like content created using AI tools, from computer-generated images to science explainers, and we intend to give people the ability to see more or less of that, depending on their own likes,” commented a company executive.

Volume and Proportions

The platform announced that there are currently over a billion videos on its network identified as made with AI. Overall, in excess of 100 mn pieces of content are added to the app each day, making clips made by AI a minor portion of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Users will be able to reduce or increase the level of AI content they watch by accessing the content preference setting in the application and choosing AI-made media. Additional categories that currently be modified under the filter cover current affairs, style, beauty, and dance.

Content Labeling and Policies

TikTok’s rules oblige creators to label “realistic” AI-made content, and it bans harmful deepfakes of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any realistic artificial content that is not labeled can be deleted under its user guidelines.

Furthermore, the platform will from now on attach an artificially created watermark to content created with its built-in AI features, or identified by an cross-platform project for spotting artificial media. This action is intended to deter users from seeking to bypass the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

The company is also introducing a two million dollar awareness program for professionals and groups to create educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will benefit charitable organizations specializing in educating coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has defended its safety measures, following debate over plans to cut jobs for numerous safety staff in the United Kingdom. It is planning to cut a significant number of roles in its trust and safety team in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists raising concerns that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would still have a role, but AI can shield workers by filtering out the most graphic content prior to it has to be seen by humans. The company stated a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content seen by content reviewers over the past year due to intervention by its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to balance staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have staff as part of that process, but we further consider it’s very important to reduce exposure to unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
